In life, there are people who talk about doing things and people who actually get on and do them. Mark Hill is one of the latter. Passionate about antiques and collectables since childhood, he has made his life's love his work, living the old adage, "if you choose something you enjoy as a job, you’ll never work a day in your life."
For 20 years, Mark has worked closely with antiques and 20th-century design. From university, he went to work at Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers before taking a job at Sotheby's as a specialist in the Collectors Department, handling everything from scientific instruments to Napoleon's spectacles. In 2005 he launched his own boutique publishing company, through which he has since published 10 ground-breaking books.
Mark Hill is perhaps best known as an expert on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow, on which he has worked since 2007. He has also co-presented four primetime series on antiques and collecting for BBC2 – Cracking Antiques, Antiques Uncovered and two series of Collectaholics.
A SideStory Experience with Mark is a joyful immersion into the vibrant world of antiques, collecting and 20th-century design. Extremely personable, he's at his happiest when answering questions, so make sure you come along loaded with everything you've ever wanted to know and really put him to the test. After all, it's not every day you get to spend time with one of the world's foremost antiques experts.Explore: #SideStoryMark
"Thank you so much for the terrific 3 hours my husband and I spent with Mark at Alfies. We haven't stopped talking about it since! My husband is officially a collector of small pieces of silverware now. He has added to the items he bought on our Experience after visiting an auction this week. We feel privileged to have met and spent time with Mark!"
