Michelle Butterly attended The Glenda Jackson Youth Theatre in Birkenhead, where she was encouraged to pursue a career in acting and apply for drama school. She trained at The Central School of Speech and Drama, from which she graduated in 1991. Her career as a professional actress has blossomed ever since. She has worked extensively for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, Bush Theatre and in the West End.
Michelle has also acted for the BBC and ITV, appearing for several years in Casualty and the BBC's hit series Soldier Soldier. She has been a regular in comedies such as Benidorm and Eyes Down and has joined the BBC Broadcasting House in various radio plays. Voice-overs and audio-books are also in her repertoire.
She can currently be seen in the gritty ITV drama Little Boy Blue” and is working on a new play by Maxine Peake with the Royal Exchange Theatre in Hull, this year's city of culture. The play is to be performed in October with music written by The Unthanks.
"Our vast age range from 14 years to grandparent did not phase Michelle at all and was certainly not a problem. She was keen to ensure she was giving us what we wanted from and throughout the experience and we learnt a lot about the life of an actor."
