Lisa Rankin grew up with a passion for Paris, ignited by the children’s book series Madeline. After working as an artist in Canada, Lisa upped sticks to Paris and never looked back. Having specialised in ceramic arts, Lisa created vessels used for food which led her to gain an appreciation of fine cuisine and an insight into to the amount of talent and dedication it takes to grow and produce artisanal foods and products. Lisa even picked grapes in Beaujolais for a season, and the back-breaking work gave her first-hand experience of the labour of love that goes into wine-making. This profound appreciation for fine produce led her to establish Flavors of Paris food tours of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Lisa will gently encourage you to cast aside any scepticism and sample some unusual flavours: truffle olive oil from the spoon, or exotic pâtes de fruits! Soft-spoken and full of information, Lisa delights in sharing places that guests would never find on their own. She takes care to learn about the unique locations, finding out their specialities and discussing the products with the owners and staff. As a result, the samples tasted on her tours are delicious and of a very high quality, and the people you meet are warm, friendly and welcoming. Lisa’s tours take in some of the finest producers hidden in plain sight, those that will allow you to eat in Paris like a local.
"Our afternoon with Lisa was a fantastic way to get to know a new neighbourhood of Paris we hadn't yet discovered. Her insights into the people that have lived and made St Germain what it is today, plus the delightful delicacies we enjoy throughout the tour were truly memorable."
