About the Experience
After assembling one of the world’s seminal collections of French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, Samuel Courtauld left his paintings to students of art history. Now forming the heart of a gallery at the Courtauld Institute, these works reveal how a private passion became a major museum at London's historic Somerset House and a core group of works at the National Gallery. By looking in depth at important paintings by Cezanne, Gauguin, Manet and Van Gogh, to name a few, Joshua will explore how one man’s education in art and developing personal taste led him to change Britain's attitude to modern French painting.
